making a difference
Aid for Antipolo was founded by Jordan Wong, Chair of the Junior Advisory Board (JAB) of Joshua's Heart Foundation (JHF) and a high school junior at Ransom Everglades School in Coconut Grove, Florida. After becoming the Chair of JAB in 2016, he thought about ways of increasing the scope of JHF by looking to provide aid to other countries. He decided to start his first international Joshua’s Heart venture in the Philippines not only because his family is from there, but because there are many socio – economic problems that afflict the country today and especially that one in four people lives below the poverty line and makes less than $2.00 per day.
With the help of family friends, Jordan found Kanlungan ng Kabataan Village (KKV), “shelter for children” in Tagalog, located in Antipolo City, 16 miles east of Manila. KKV provides shelter to children who have been abandoned, physically and sexually abused and neglected. Although KKV is sponsored by the city government, the money that they receive is very little - $1.20 per child for three meals a day, and, therefore, they are in dire need of supplemental supplies such as non – perishable food, toiletries, and medicine.
This cause truly resonates with JHF for they recognize the strength of young people, and Jordan is hopeful that if they improve these children's lives they will continue that circle of goodwill and help improve the lives of others.
